Thank you Valve!

Portal 2 is coming out in North America on April 19th. It comes out on the 21st everywhere else. Many games come out earlier in the U.S. and Canada, so most people will think nothing of this, but I don’t believe it’s a coincidence. 

Rather than choosing a December release or a summer release for a highly anticipated game, Valve is releasing Portal 2 during a different holiday season. April 20th, or 4/20, is celebrated as a holiday by a very large subculture in the United States. If you don’t know who I’m referring to, you may choose to think of them as “Cheetos connoisseurs.” The first Portal game appealed to herbal enthusiasts and glaucoma patients more than any other game before it. If the release date is indeed intended as a nod towards Portal fans, I would like to thank Valve. Many developers seem to forget about their fans in the pursuit of profits. Thank you for keeping us in mind.

Portal 2 is coming out for PC, Xbox 360, PS3, and Mac on April 19, 2011.
